From car crashes to drownings, even falls, the Lee Health Trauma Center has treated patients with a variety of injuries for 27 years. “It’s important to recognize that between the ages of 1-44, trauma remains the leading cause of death, more so than any other illness,” said Dr. Sergey Kozyr, a trauma surgeon with Lee Health. Which is why for the last 32 years, Lee Health has developed multiple programs to teach the community how to prevent a serious injury. “Trauma services here at Lee Health have dedicated a lot of time, a lot of resources, and a lot of personnel on a lot of these programs. Helmet safety, drunk driving, water safety, falls in the elderly, gun violence, and many other wonderful programs,” he said.
