DVIDS – Video – Bilateral Bugle Training [Video]

Narration:Six experienced buglers from Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s 4th Engineer Group on Camp Zama and Camp Komakado recently visited the U.S. Army Japan Band to improve their bugle performance techniques. Interview: MSG Yoshimi Ito, Bugle Trainer, 4th Engineer Group, JGSDFEvery year, buglers from the 1st Engineer Brigade gather and practice the bugle together for about a week. As part of this training, we asked the skilled U.S. Army Japan band to teach us techniques and tips on playing the bugle.Narration:Before the practice began, the visiting buglers had an opportunity to see how the U.S. Army Japan band practices before performing. Staff Sergeant Joel Heredia, a trumpet performer from the USARJ Band, taught students step by step, how to play bugle – from tonguing to proper breathing techniques. He also showed fellow musicians what they could improve on when they play bugle in their units.Interview: Staff Sgt. Joel Heredia, Trumpet, U.S. Army Japan BandInterview: PFC Kouki Okamoto, 364th Engineer Company, JGSDFI realized today the way I was practicing was causing problems and I was not improving my skills. I will fix the problems that SSG Heredia told me about and try to develop my performance for the future.Interview: SGT Hiroki Ii, 4th Engineer Group, JGSDFIt was very exciting and I’m glad that I was able to participate in today’s event. We don’t have the opportunity to learn directly from our band members in JGSDF, so it was very fortunate to have a band member – especially from the U.S. Army – and learn their professionalism both mentally and physically. It was very fun. Narration:After the practice was over, a representative from the newly- trained JGSDF members was selected to perform JGSDFs evening retreat with SSG Heredia near their headquarters building.Reporting for U.S. Army Garrison Japan, this is XXXXXXXX.
